In line with MOH's drive against diabetes, ResteLab would like to introduce HbA1c to the general public. HbA1c is a diabetes marker that is currently used for known diabetic patients or individuals who are deemed to be at risk of having the disease. It measures long term blood sugar levels and is therefore more useful and reliable than using fasting blood glucose to test for diabetes. However, the cost of running HbA1c tests prevents its widespread usage amongst the general public to screen for diabetes.

Advantages of HbA1c

• Subjects need not be fasting
• Samples can be obtained any time of the day
• Little variability between different gender and age groups
• Not altered by acute factors, e.g., stress, exercise
• Reflects long-term blood glucose concentration
